Lady Wildcats Battle Rain, Lightning and Milton, Falling 6-3 to the Panthers

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It was a very long and interesting battle for Central Mountain as they hosted Milton in a PHAC second cycle contest that featured solid hits, and wet weather conditions along with a bit of lightning to keep the game interesting. The Lady ‘Cats built a 2-0 lead. after which Milton battled back for a 6-3, eight inning win.

CM scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning when Kylie Wagner got on board with a base hit then advanced to to second base on a wild pitch. Autumn Dershem moved Watson to third base with a sac fly to right field with Wagner scoring when Riley Houser reach base on a Milton error to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, Central Mountain added another run to their tally when Alyssa Fisher worked a walk, advanced to second base on another wild pitch and scoring off a base hit by Morgan Wetzel to give CM a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.

In the top of the fourth inning, Milton bounced back scoring 3 runs of their own using 3 singles and a double to do the damage for a 3-2 lead. All 3 Lady Panther runs came with 2 outs on the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Wildcats tied the game up by scoring another run. This time it was another base hit from Wagner to get things started followed by single from Houser, then Mallory Eck reaching first base on a Milton miscue to set the score at 3-3.

With the score still tied after seven innings of play, the game moved to the top of inning No. 8.

Both teams had been battling an annoying off and on drizzle for the entire game which varied from a light sprinkle to a steady drizzle. With one out and a runner on second base, there was lightning spotted near the field and play was suspended for 47 minutes until the danger passed. The teams resumed play and Milton git right back to work and plated 3 more runs to recapture the lead and hold a 6-3 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lady ‘Cats could not match their guests efforts and fell to the Lady Panthers, 6-3.

Caitlyn Watson, Alexa Shultz and Dershem also had base hits in the game.

Watson worked the first five innings in the circle for the Lady Wildcats yielding 6 hits, 2 walks, striking out 2 Milton batters. Madi Knepp closed out the final three innings allowing 3 hits, 3 walks and striking out 3 batters.

The loss takes Central Mountain to 4-6 on the year, 3-4 in conference play.
