Rick Conklin Withdraws Mayoral Candidacy

LOCK HAVEN – City council member Rick Conklin on Tuesday announced he is withdrawing his candidacy for Mayor of Lock Haven.

The announcement came through an email to the media:

Ladies and Gentleman,

It is with regrets and sadness that I announce that I am discontinuing my campaign for the office of Mayor of the City of Lock Haven. I am leaving the campaign for personal and professional reasons.

I want to thank those, and apologize to those, who have been so supportive of this effort. I especially thank those who took the time to sign my petitions. It is wrong to seek an elected position just so I can say I am the mayor.

I will continue to work for a better city and focus on improving the quality of life for all its residents from my council position.

Regretfully
Rick Conklin

Conklin’s withdrawal leaves only fellow council member Joel Long as a candidate for mayor thus far. Current Mayor Bill Baney announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election. Conklin is a Republican, Long and Baney both Democrats.
