Lock Haven Looks at $6 Million in Improvement for 2019
LOCK HAVEN – City Manager Greg Wilson and Public Works Director Tony Stopper Monday night presented city council with a $6 million capital improvement plan for 2019, part of a $42 million plan for the next five years.
The bulk of that money, some $28 million over the five years, would go towards state-mandated improvements to the city’s water system which serves both city and Suburban Water Authority customers.
Wilson said drilling will begin this year for a series of supplemental water wells to be utilized when the city water authority takes Keller Reservoir out of service for a year and a half. Much of the money in succeeding years will go towards required upgrades at Ohl Reservoir.
Other big ticket items planned for 2019 include $239,000 in street paving, $1.188 million in improvements at Piper Memorial Airport and $534,000 for parks and property. The city’s Second Avenue garage is to get a $478,000 upgrade, including $250,000 for a new salt storage facility; council awarded the contract for that work to a Clyde, NY construction company at its meeting.
Wilson said funding sources for the capital projects will come from a variety of revenue streams, including grants. He said he will seek a council motion at its March 18 meeting to “endorse” the capital spending plan which includes 104 projects over the five years.
Projects for this year include new signage for visitors coming into town off Paul Mack Boulevard and new trash cans, plus $80,000 in upgrades at Hammermill Playground.
