City’s Tidlow Dam Set for 2019 Repairs
LOCK HAVEN – The city’s Tidlow Dam off Grant Street is set for repairs in late winter/early spring next year.
City council Monday night entered into an engineering agreement with Gwin Dobson & Foreman for the firm’s services for repairs to the dam on the Susquehanna River. The cost of the engineering services is not to exceed $35,000 and the total project cost is not to exceed $300,000. The money will come from the city’s recently approved bond issue.
City manager Greg Wilson said the work will begin next year “after the ice goes out.” He estimated the repair time at a minimum of six weeks. The river level will be lowered while the work is performed and Wilson said it will take two weeks for the water table to come back after repairs are completed.
Wilson said the city knows of one dam slab that is damaged, the cement broken. The dam was last repaired in 1992-93, prior to construction of the city’s dike-levee project.
Council also learned that this winter’s Frozen Snot Race will be held on Feb. 2. Council approved Zindel Park and surrounding watershed property for the race. Race officials said 240 runners participated last winter and the event sold out within 14 hours of the online posting notice.
