UPMC Extended Care Collects Supplies for Dickey Elementary
LOCK HAVEN – UPMC Extended Care residents in Lock Haven chose Dickey Elementary to be the recipient of their most recent community service project. Over the last month, residents and employees have been collecting paper, folders, crayons, glue sticks, and everything an elementary school student and teacher will need to have a great school year. The collection culminated with Dickey Elementary teacher, Mrs. Kathi Neidrich accepting the supplies on behalf of her school and thanking the residents for thinking of the students. “We are so thankful that you thought of us. These supplies will go a long way in helping our school,” said Neidrich to the residents.
Extended Care residents have community service projects throughout the year and through the longtime friendship of Mrs. Neidrich and UPMC Director of Nursing Administrative Assistant, Cicily Nonemaker, the wheels were put in motion to help Dickey students. “We were talking this summer about the upcoming school year and how we could help,” said Nonemaker. Hundreds of items were collected and boxed up for Dickey Elementary.
The residents were very proud and happy to help. “We decided to hold this collection in memory of former extended care resident and former Lock Haven High School teacher, Ethlyn Spotts,” said resident Louise Powers and “both of my children attended Dickey” she continued.” Resident Council President, Janet Herman added, “We like to help anywhere we can”.
