Caldwell New Coach for Wildcat Softball
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — A successful college and high school softball coach has been selected as the new head coach of the Central Mountain softball program.
The school announced Monday that Fred Caldwell will be the new Lady Wildcat coach next spring. Athletic director George Bidwell said a “Meet the Coach Night” will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Central Mountain auditorium.
Caldwell had most recently been head coach at Bellefonte High School, the Lady Red Raiders winning the District 6 Class 4A title in May. He previously had success as the head coach at Penn State –Altoona. He will replace Ben Trew, the Central Mountain coach the last two seasons. Trew lost his
teaching position as a result of faculty retrenchment within the Keystone Central School District.
The announcement on the Caldwell hire said junior high parents and athletes are encouraged to attend Aug. 7 as information on the 2018 junior high season will be dispensed. The release said the new coach looks forward to meeting softball players, parents and community members.
Caldwell’s hire is expected to be officially approved by the school board at its August 9 meeting. All district spring coaching positions had been declared open by the school board earlier this year.
