Clinton Bounces Back with 16-5 Win over Pittston Area

WEST NEWTON, PA – After being stunned by a 10-0 shutout loss to Lower Perkiomen in their opening round game of the Pennsylvania 9-11 Little League Softball Championship tournament, the Clinton 9-11 All-Stars bounced back with a 16-5 mercy rule win over Pittston Area.

Clinton jumped on Pittston Area with 8 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Danica Kelly, Brynn Swanger, Kierstyn Reed and Mya Krout all had base hits for Clinton in the first inning while Jacey Tripp pounded out her first of 2 doubles on the day to give Clinton an early 8-0 advantage.

Clinton was not satisfied and they scored 2 more runs in the top of the third inning.

This time it was a walk for Leah Lohman, Ellie Heaton was hit by a pitch and Swanger smacked out a 2 RBI double to put Clinton out in front, 10-0.

Pittston Area rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the third using a pair of walks and 3 Clinton errors, still trailing Clinton 10-3.

Then in the top of the fourth inning, Clinton went back to work Mattisyn Mason had a 1-out single, Eiler and Lohman were each hit by a pitch while Kelly and Swanger each had base hits and Tripp had a 2 RBI double. When the dust settled, Clintons lead grew to 16-3.

Pittston Area managed to plate 2 more runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Clinton defense would allow no more to secure the four inning 16-5 win.

In all, Clinton garnered 12 hits with Swanger, double and 2 singles; Kelly 3 singles; Tripp 2 doubles; Reed, 2 doubles and base hits for Mason and Krout.

In the circle, Tripp went the distance allowing 1 hit, four walks, striking out 6 Pittston Area batters.

Clinton will now face the loser of the West Point vs Yough game played later today in the next consolation round, Sunday, July 29 at 5 p.m.
