Clinton 8-10 All-Stars Place Second in District 12
LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton Softball 8-10 All-Stars knew they would be in for a tough battle with Both Williamsport in the District 12 championship game but they fought valiantly eventually losing to South 14-4.
Clinton got on the board with a run in the top of the first inning when Cirstyn Watson led off with a bunt and stole her way to third base, scoring on a fielder’s choice by Ava Doyle.
Both lived up to their billing in the bottom of the first as their bats rang out for 9 runs to hold a 9-1 lead over Clinton.
In the top of the second, South pitcher, Elizabeth Schuler settled in and stuck out the Clinton in order. Then South picked up their bats and tacked on another four runs for a 13-1 advantage.
Clinton knew they were in dire straits but refused to yield to South without a fight.
In the top of the third. two outs on the board, Watson belted out a base hit followed by a double from Ava Doyle that went to the fence which Doyle turned into an in-the-park-dinger as she lapped the bases for 2 RBI, closing the score to 13-3.
Then Shea Yost and Taylor Doyle followed on with a single and a stolen base to work into scoring position and was brought home by a base hit from Rylan Andrews setting the score at 14-4 in favor of South.
Clinton would hold South scoreless in the bottom of the third inning with hopes of continuing their comeback effort in the previous inning. Such was not to pass.
Schüler settled in once more collecting three more strikeouts for her effort.
Then in the bottom of the fourth, South used a hit batsmen, 2 walks and a wild pitch to plate the the final run of the game.
Cirstyn Watson, Ava Doyle and Taylor Doyle covered the pitching duties for Clinton. The trio combined for allowing 5 hits, 12 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Also of note, the Clinton LL officials and volunteers did a great job preparing the fields for play today. After getting everything ready in the morning, the field was hit by a heavy thundershower shortly before game time. Thanks to a great effort, everything was ready to get the game going right on schedule.
