Clinton 8-10 All-Stars Whitewash East Lycoming 28-3
LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton 8-10 All-Stars opened up their District 12 Little League Softball campaign with a 28-3 whitewash win over East Lycoming.
Clinton was up to bat first by virtue of the coin toss and took little time in taking advantage of East Lycoming’s pitching by plating 6 runs for an early lead.
East Lycoming attempted to answer back in the bottom of the first by scoring a run of their own before the Clinton defense shut them down.
Then the wheels came off the cart for EL in the top of the second inning when they pounded out 8 hits, took advantage of 5 walks and utilized some very aggressive base running while collecting 16 more runs to hold a 22-1 lead.
East Lycoming would not fold up their tent just yet and fought back to score a couple of runs, still trailing 22-3.
In the top of the third inning, Clinton kept the machine rolling scoring 6 more insurance runs resulting from 5 hits and four walks to extend their lead to 28-3
Once again the Clinton defense led by the pitching of Cirstin Watson held strong to end the game under the mercy rule.
In-all, Clinton accumulated 16 hits with Rylan Andrews went 4-of-5 pounding out a triple, and 3 singles and was hit by a pitch. Watson helped her own cause with a double, 2 base hits and was also hit by a pitch. Twins, Ava and Taylor Doyle proved equally productive by hitting a double and single each. Ellen Banfill had a pair of doubles in the game while Shea Yost Lillian Germello and Makenna Stone all had a base hit to their credit.
In the Circle, Watson hurled a no-hitter while giving up 6 walks and recording 7 strikeouts in 3 innings of work.
Clinton will now face South, a 14-0 winner over Loyalsock tonight, in the winner’s bracket final tomorrow in South Williamsport.
