City Beach Aims for Friday Re-opening
LOCK HAVEN – City officials are looking for one more clean bill on the quality of water at the city beach so the facility can re-open.
City Recreation Director Jack Bailey said Wednesday the state Health Department informed him it needs the results from a Wednesday morning water sample before an all-clear is given. Bailey had hoped the beach off Vesper Street could re-open as soon as this Wednesday, but the state said one more test was needed to make sure the water’s bacteria level had fallen below the necessary threshold.
The beach had been open only briefly earlier this month when water samples showed a high fecal content and the beach was shut down.
City officials indicated earlier this week it is virtually impossible to determine what caused the unanticipated decrease in the water quality, temporarily closing the beach, a city staple for better than half a century.
