Loar Leads LHU Comeback-Win at PSAC Tourney
QUAKERTOWN – Amanda Loar (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) went 4 for 4 with a RBI and sparked the Lock Haven University softball team’s (36-10) 5-3 comeback-win over Seton Hill (22-14) today in the second round at the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
With the win, Lock Haven will advance to tomorrow’s semifinal game. Yesterday (Wednesday, May 2), the Bald Eagles opened the PSAC Tournament with a 1-0 win over Millersville.
Today, LHU trailed early, but Loar’s strong day at the plate and another solid outing from pitcher Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) sparked the come-from-behind victory.
Traci Kromko (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) was 2 for 3 with a RBI.
Seton Hill – the home team – struck first and plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. The Griffins led 2-0 after two.
The Bald Eagles looked to respond quickly and loaded the bases in the third, but couldn’t sneak a run home.
Trailing 2-0, Lock Haven got one back in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded again, Kromko knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly to center, which cut the Seton Hill lead to 2-1.
Following a Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) single to the pitcher in the fifth, Seton Hill committed an error on the same play, which allowed Chloe Kennedy (Elkton, Md./Caravel Academy) to score. Kennedy’s run tied the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Seton Hill was quick to respond and took the lead again after a RBI-single to center, and made it 3-2.
Lock Haven plated two in the top of the sixth. Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa./Troy) broke home and scored after another Seton Hill error to tie the game at 3-3 and the Bald Eagles took the 4-3 lead after Loar laid down a RBI-bunt to the pitcher that brought Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) home.
In the top of the seventh, Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) capped the scoring and gave Lock Haven some insurance with RBI-double that drove in Ceely.
Leading 5-3, Slattery and the Bald Eagles shut the door in the bottom of the seventh and held on for the comeback-win.
Slattery finished with five strikeouts.
