Lady Wildcats Roll Over Altoona, 10-0

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Lady Wildcats found their bats once again tonight. After a lack-luster 1-0 win over Midd-West yesterday, Central Mountain pounded out a 10-0 five inning win over visiting Altoona.

CM picked up their first run in the bottom of the first inning starting with a 2-out base hit by Morgan Wetzel. Then, after advancing to second on a steal, Wetzel scored on an RBI double from Skylar Smith.

Then in the bottom of the second inning, the Lady ‘Cats really got down to work plating 5 more runs.

Riley Houser started things off reaching base on an error, then advanced to second base on a passed ball. Alyssa Fisher smacked a base hit sending Houser to third who scored on a wild pitch while Fisher stole second. With two outs on the board, Josie Dershem worked a walk. Wetzel hit her second single of the day, this time for 2 RBI. Wetzel stole second base yet again and was driven home on a RBI double by Madison Knepp to put Central Mountain up 6-0.

The Lady Wildcats took a breather in the third inning but added another run in the fourth inning. This time it was back-to-back doubles from Wetzel and Smith to extend the CM margin to 7-0.

Coach Ben Trew made several substitutions in the fifth inning to give some younger players valuable varsity experience. Madalyn Bechdel led off the inning with a base hit followed by an RBI double from Autumn Dershem. Fisher had her second base hit of the day and Cassidy Brush stroked out an RBI single. Linzy Carson closed out the scoring with an RBI base hit to set the final tally at 10-0 in favor of Central Mountain.

Caitlyn Brush went the distance in the circle for the Lady Wildcats allowing one hit, 2 walks, striking out 5 batters in the game.

The Lady ‘Cat defense was very stingy against the Lady Mountain Lions, retiring the side in order in each of the first four inning and only allowing five batters to make an appearance in the final inning.

The win takes CM to 10-4 overall, 6-1 in the PHAC.

Central Mountain won’t have long to celebrate their win as they travel to rival Jersey Shore tomorrow, May 3, 2018, for another PHAC contest. CM’s only conference loss was to ‘Shore back on April 12 where the Lady Bulldogs prevailed 4-0. Jersey Shore is still undefeated at 11-0 overall, 6-0 in conference play.
