CM Picks Up Another Win over Selinsgrove, 13-2

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain (6-3, 4-1) pulled off back-to-back wins over Selinsgrove in consecutive days picking up another PHAC win, downing the Seals 13-2 in five innings.

On Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats handed Selinsgrove a 12-7 loss, today the outcome was a bit more one-sided as the CM bats found more games in the Lady Seals’ defense.

“We did the same things yesterday that we did today,” said CM head coach, Ben Trew, “We had quite a few balls that were hit hard bit they were right at people and they made plays. Today they fell in,” Trew added.

Central Mountain spotted Selinsgrove a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, then proceeded to knock in 5 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Caitlyn Brush led off with a base hit then advanced to second on a sac bunt by Josie Dershem. Morgan Wetzel smacked a single sending Brush to third base. Skylar Smith then pounded out her first base hit of the day, plating Brush and Wetzel to give CM a 2-1 lead. Madison Knepp and Alexa Shultz each hit singles for the Lady ‘Cats with Autumn Dershem hitting into a fielder’s choice scoring Smith. Riley Houser followed on with a base hit of her own scoring Knepp and Shultz for a 5-2 lady Wildcat lead.

Selinsgrove picked up another run in the second inning but that just inspired the Central Mountain bats to battle even more.

Once again, Caitlyn Brush led off the inning, this time she went yard over the left-center field fence for a solo homer putting the Lady Wildcats in front, 6-2. Wetzel reached first on a walk then crossed the plate on a RBI single from Smith. Keep also had a walk in the second inning and scored with Smith when Shultz hit into a 1 RBI fielder’s choice. That effort gave CM a comfortable 9-2 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, Central Mountain tacked on four more runs. Jessica Carlson punched out a base hit to start things off then proceeded to steal second base. With 2 outs on the board, Wetzel worked a walk then Smith hit her second 2 RBI single of the day to score Carlson and Wetzel. Knepp stepped up and found a gap in the Selinsgrove defense for a base hit with Linzy Carson working a base on balls to set up another 2 RBI fielder’s choice effort for Autumn Dershem to set the Central Mountain lead at 13-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, Selinsgrove did attempt to extend the game with runners on second and third before the Lady ‘Cat defense shut down the effort ending the game under the 10 run mercy rule.

Keep went the distance in the circle against Selinsgrove yielding 6 hits, 2 walks, striking out one batter.

“Maddie Knepp did a great job today, she hit her spots and located the ball very well,” coach Trew observed.

Next up for Central Mountain is a road trip to Shamokin on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Central Mountain will also host their annual Thunder on the Mountain tournament which will feature DuBois, Hempfield and Seneca Valley.
