Early Lady ‘Cat Lead Earns 12-7 Win over Selinsgrove
SELINSGROVE – Central Mountain softball picked up another key PHAC win tonight on the road with a 12-7 victory over the Lady Seals.
The Lady Wildcats bunched up 8 runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone.
In that start, Caitlyn Bruch led off with a base hit followed by another base hit from Josie Dershem. Then Morgan Wetzel plated Brush for the first score of the inning with an RBI double. Skylar Smith then sent Dershem and Wetzel home with a 2 RBI single to put the Lady ‘Cats up 3-0.
The offensive onslaught continued when Madison Knepp pounded out another base hit. Then Alexa Shultz reached first base on a Selinsgrove error to load the bases. Autumn Dershem smacked out a 3 RBI double to put CM up, 6-0. Riley House was up next and picked up her first of three base hits in the game. Brush took her second at bat of the inning, this time pounding out a 2 RBI double for the 8-0 lead.
Selinsgrove would respond with three runs in the bottom of the first, still trailing the Lady Wildcats, 8-3.
Both teams would put up one more run each in the fifth inning. CM’s run came as a result of a two-out single from Houser then Madalyn Bechdel plated House with a double to give Central Mountain a 9-4 lead.
Central Mountain scored 2 more runs in the sixth inning, this time it was a base hit from a double from Shultz and a 2 RBI single from Autumn Dershem. The Lady Seals answered back with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning, still trailing, 11-7.
Morgan Wetzel slammed a solo homer in the seventh inning to set the final tally of 12-7 in favor of Central Mountain.
Caitlyn Brush went the distance in the circle giving up 11 hits, walking four batters in the game.
Tomorrow it will be a re-match for these teams as today’s game was a makeup date rescheduled from March 29. Selinsgrove will visit CMHS for a 4:30 p.m. start, Tuesday, April 23, 2018.
The win takes Central Mountain to 5-3 overall, 3-1 in the PHAC.
