Lady Bucks Bop Northern Potter
By Jim Morgan
FARWELL – The Bucktail Lady Bucks enjoyed a nice Saturday afternoon with a win over Northern Potter by a score of 9-3. Sophomore Myka Poorman was again solid inside the circle, striking out 13 batters, allowing two walks and five hits while throwing 112 pitches.
The Lady Bucks bats were way out in front of the NP pitcher for about the first three innings before they started to make solid contact. Poorman would help with a solid single in the first inning to score Anna Cowfer from a walk. Bucktail would lead 2-0 after one inning. NP would tie the game in the top of the third inning, all three runs unearned. Bucktail had six errors during the game and for most cases, that means losing the game.
For Bucktail the girls kept battling at the plate with key hits. Maria D’Onofrio would start the bottom of the third with a single and two stolen bases before Emily Cross singled for the RBI. Then Emma Intallura singled to score Cross making it 4-2 Bucktail. In the fourth inning Cross had that key hit with two outs and two runners on as she singled for a RBI. It was in the fifth inning with two outs, that A. Cowfer hit a big double for two RBI’s as D’Onofrio added an RBI off a single. Cross would lead off with a double and Intallura would follow with a double to score Cross.
Coach Mike Poorman indicated he is not happy with the defense especially with six errors. Most teams can jump on that mistake offensively. For NP it was only their second game of the year. Weather up north kept them inside until last week for a game as they only had one practice out on their field.
The Lady Bucks are now 2-3 and will be home for three games next week, starting at home Tuesday with Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.
