Lady ‘Cats March to 15-5 Win in ‘Hit Parade’ at Midd-West

MIDDLEBURG – After an extended break for the Easter Holiday and several days of unfavorable weather, the Lady Wildcat softball team picked up a 15-5, 5 inning road win pounding out 18 hits against Midd-West.

The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 1 inning of play but Central Mountain responded in kind with 5 runs of their one in the top of the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. That second inning effort was highlighted by a single from Maegan Miller, doubles from Skylar Smith and Madalyn Bechdel and first-ever homer from Alexa Shultz who went yard on her first-ever at bat in her high school career.

Midd-West held CM scoreless in the top of the third inning though the Lady Mustangs managed to plate another run in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 5-3 in favor of Central Mountain.

Then in the fourth inning, the Lady ‘Cats opened the flood gates for 5 more runs. This time it was base hits from Caitlyn Brush, Morgan Wetzel, Autumn Dershem and Cassidy Brush along with another double from Skylar Smith and a home run from Madison Knepp to give CM a commanding 10-3 lead.

Central Mountain held the Lady Mustangs in check in the bottom of the fourth inning then picked up their bats to plate 5 more runs in the top of the fifth inning to go ahead 15-3. This time the damage was done with singles from Caitlyn Brush, Morgan Wetzel, Skylar Smith, Alexa Shultz and doubles from Alyssa Fisher and Autumn Dershem.

The Lady Mustangs did attempt a late-game rally to battle back but could only manage to score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth that preserved the 15-5 margin to end the game early under the 10 run mercy rule.

Caitlyn Brush handled the pitching duties for the Lady ‘Cats yielding 5 hits and picking 3 strikeouts on the night.

Next up for Central Mountain are off until Monday, April 9, 2018 when they will host Hollidaysburg.
