DUNNSTABLE TOWNSHIP — An as yet unidentified man is in custody after he commandeered a truck on the Veterans Jay Street Bridge and led police in pursuit until he wrecked along Route 150 just west of Poorman’s Market.

The incident began after 10 o’clock Thursday morning when emergency personnel said they received the report of a residence fire at Water Valley Trailer Court off the Farrandsville Road in Woodward Township. While firemen responded, authorities said a man was observed driving a truck towards Lock Haven. He abandoned the truck in the middle of the bridge. A witness said he was yelling and shouting that he had a gun; at that point, the witness said, he commandeered a Suburban Water Authority truck, forced the driver out, and maneuvered through backed-up traffic on the bridge, heading north towards Woodward Township (driving by an unknowing Record reporter at a brisk clip).

He drove the truck towards Dunnstown and then onto Route 150 in an easterly direction, police from multiple departments in pursuit. The chase ended when the truck crashed into the guardrails four miles east of Lock Haven. Police and medical personnel were seen tending to the man who was restrained and wailing loudly at the site of the crash.

Authorities said they found no fire when responding to River Valley Trailer Court.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
