City Council Gives Thumbs Up for Regional Bus Service
LOCK HAVEN — City Council Monday night gave its unanimous approval to participation in regional bus service. The vote was 6-0 to approve a memorandum linking Lock Haven, Lock Haven University, Clinton County, the county housing authority and First Quality as partners.
The memorandum states the participants will be party to a 3-year pilot project that River Valley Transit out of Williamsport will manage and operate. The state transportation department is also a player in the project through multi-modal funding.
City council vice-president Steve Stevenson, council’s representative on the bus study panel, said the annual cost to Lock Haven will be $9,000 and could be less if additional project partners are found; he said the dollar amount is one the city can work with, noting a function of government is to provide transportation.
The service would be an extension of bus routes River Valley provides in Lycoming County, extending through Jersey Shore and into Clinton County, servicing the greater Lock Haven area. Service is expected to begin later this year.
