LHU Students Plant 5,000 Trees in Sproul Forest
LOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University students from Dr. James Bean’s Interpersonal and Leadership Skills class recently helped plant 5,000 trees in Sproul Forest north of Renovo. Butch Davey, retired forester, and Dr. Ed Bowman were their mentors. In addition to LHU students, volunteers from Harrisburg’s PENN RELEAF club also planted under the direction of their founder, Norm Lacasse. The trees were White Spruce and were provided by the Bureau of Forestry (DCNR) and Penn Nursery. Their DCNR instructor, Doug D’Amore taught the LHU planters about how best to plant the conifers and also about reforestation. The planting area was dedicated to the memory of Paul Keithan who loved Sproul Forest. In ten years of planting trees in Sproul Forest LHU students have helped plant more than 50,000 trees.
