Buck Boys Edged at End

by Jim Morgan

bucks-basketballBLOOMSBURG — The Bucktail Bucks (4-6) started the New Year on the wrong foot. With the score tied 46-46 and 23 ticks left on the clock, Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech cashed in on two Bucktail turnovers for the final score 50-46.

Buck coach Dave Pentz has to be wondering what is going on? “We just turned the ball over at the wrong time and not taking quality shots.”  Shooting from the foul line was 40% (10-25).

Bucktail jumped out to a 10-5 lead at the end of the first quarter as Ryan Prebble scored 6 of his total 16 points in the game as he was the high scorer for the Bucks. The Bucks would maintain that lead going into the locker room at halftime 21-16.

In the second half, CMVT started going to their two main scorers and were being very successful. Bucktail could not find anyone to answer back as CMVT grabbed the lead right before the end of the third quarter (33-32). In the fourth quarter, it was going back and forth until the very end; both coaches using timeouts at the end to line up their game plans. But it would be two big turnovers by the Bucks that would be the difference at the end as CMVT took the ball down for two uncontested lay-ups for the win.

On Friday the Bucks will travel to St. John Neumann for a 6 p.m. start. Then next Tuesday the Bucks will be back home to host Montgomery for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
