Obituary – Carol Jean Calhoun

Carol Jean Calhoun, 60, of Jersey Shore, passed away on December 24, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, surrounded by her loving family.

Carol was born on May 4, 1965, in Princeton, New Jersey, to John W. Calhoun Jr. and Elizabeth J. Dorey. She attended Lock Haven High School and throughout her life worked in various roles, including as a waitress at Boron Truck Stop, Woolrich Woolen Mills, ICT Insurance, Sikes, Pizza Hut, and Weis Markets. However, her most important and cherished role was being a stay-at-home mother.

Carol had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for life. She enjoyed singing, dancing, and listening to all kinds of music, fishing, camping, and swimming. She loved playing board and card games and had a remarkable passion for flowers and horticulture. Carol also enjoyed watching NASCAR, WWE wrestling, Hallmark and Lifetime movies, and she was a devoted Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She was very artistic and loved to draw. Carol had a special appreciation for wildlife, especially bears, and lovingly earned the nickname “Momma Bear” from her children.

Carol was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many—her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by three children, Jenna (Aaron) Fillman, Colton (Jess) Calhoun, and Mackenzie Dugan; her cherished granddaughter, Ella Fillman; and her beloved fur grandbabies, Luna, Odin, Atlas, Binx, and Sox. She is also survived by her father, John W. Calhoun Jr.; three sisters, Alicia (Zach) Calhoun, Ashley Calhoun, and Karen; her brother, Dustin (Shena) Calhoun; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three children, Samantha, Bonnie, and Cody Long; her mother, Elizabeth J. Dorey; two sisters, Jessica and Beth; two brothers, John and Curtis; her fur babies Roxy, Aurora, Star, Twilight, and fur grandbabies Esme, Raven, Princess, and Moo Moo; and her lifelong best friend, Ralph L. Dugan Jr., the father of her children.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
