Lady Wildcats Gain Experience at Hamburg Tournament

HAMBURG-The Central Mountain girls soccer team hit the road for an early-season tournament at Hamburg Area High School, facing a pair of tough challenges over the weekend.

On Friday, the Wildcats took on the undefeated Lady Hawks. The long trip proved challenging, as Central Mountain fell behind by two goals in the first half. Hamburg added two more scores after the break, but the Wildcats found a bright spot when freshman Reese Warner netted her second goal of the season. Warner connected on a pass from Kali Couturiaux and buried it in the back of the net to put Central Mountain on the board in the 4–1 loss.

Head coach Ryan Veltri said, “Although the game ended in a loss, the contest served as a valuable experience for the Lady Wildcats as they prepare for upcoming PHAC matchups.”

The Lady Wildcats returned on Saturday for the consolation match against Brandywine Heights. In a closely contested game, Brandywine’s lone first-half goal proved to set the tone, as the Lady Cats fell 4–0 despite a strong overall performance.

The first half was evenly matched, with both sides trading scoring chances. Brandywine broke through before halftime, and while they tacked on three more goals in the second half, the Wildcats showed promising stretches of possession and build-up play that tested the Brandywine defense.

Several players stepped into new roles during the match, bringing fresh energy and offering a glimpse of potential moving forward.

With tournament play now behind them, the Lady Wildcats turn their focus to PHAC competition. They open league play Monday with a road trip to Danville, aiming to put their early-season experience to use.
