Albert Jones named Lock Haven Director of Athletics

LOCK HAVEN– Albert Jones ’99 has been named the director of athletics at Lock Haven.

The announcement follows Jones’ interim appointment as the director of athletics at The Haven.

“Albert’s commitment, enthusiasm, and drive for Lock Haven athletics, the campus, and the local community are truly admirable,” said Bashar W. Hanna, Commonwealth University-Lock Haven president. “His leadership and dedication will continue to support the success of our student-athletes. This is a meaningful time for Lock Haven athletics, and I’m confident Albert will be a steady and impactful presence.”

“It’s truly an honor and privilege to be named the director of athletics at The Haven. It’s a full circle moment for me as my journey began as a Lock Haven student-athlete, and now I have the great privilege of supporting the more than 500-plus student-athletes on their path to greatness, both in the classroom and in their field of competition,” Jones said. “I want to continue to foster a culture of leadership, collaboration, respect and continued learning in all that we do. I will work tirelessly with the student-athletes, coaches and entire campus community to build a legacy of sportsmanship, partnership and excellence.”

Jones began his tenure as interim director of athletics on August 31, 2024, and he quickly made an impact on the department.

Jones has played a vital role in increased engagement with alumni and supporters. He increased revenue through new business sponsorships and fostered new community partners. Jones has been instrumental in helping to improve the game-day experience through expanded concession services, improved tailgating opportunities, social media marketing and additional game day promotions with local organizations.

“We are fortunate that Albert’s skills, experience and loyalty to Lock Haven have him ready to lead the athletic department into the future. Since he began his interim duties in August, Albert has proven that he is the right person to assume this critically important role,” said Stephen Lee, vice president for enrollment management and Lock Haven campus administrator. “Albert is a former Lock Haven student-athlete who has always remained connected to the department in many important roles, and his love for The Haven is contagious. A strong foundation has been built and I look forward to seeing the continued progress.”

From July 2021 to August 2024, Jones served as Commonwealth University’s chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer.

Prior to being named the chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer at CU, Jones held the title of human resources manager at West Pharmaceutical Services.

Jones, a former standout on the Lock Haven football team, earned an undergraduate degree in business management from The Haven in 1999 and a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix in 2003. Following his graduation from Lock Haven, Jones returned to his alma mater as the director of human and cultural diversity. He was later named assistant to the president for social equity in 2003 before transitioning to the role of associate director of human resources from 2008-2013.
