PHOENIX MCCLOSKEY FALLS IN REGIONAL OPENING ROUND

WILLIAMSPORT – Sugar Valley Rural Charter senior Jarren McCloskey, just the second Phoenix wrestler to qualify for regionals, dropped his opening round match and thus dropped into the consolation rounds of the Northeast Class AA regional tournament. 

McCloskey (27-11), the District 4 fourth place finisher, was leading 3-1, when he got reversed and pinned by Keagan Bagley (31-15) of Sullivan County in 2:52 of their opening round bout. McCloskey will face Karter Stone (22-22) of Montoursville in the first round of consolations Saturday morning. Stone was the fifth place finisher in the District 4 tournament. 

The Montoursville Warriors are dominating the regional tournament after day one, as they have 63.5 points and seven wrestlers into the championship semifinals. Mifflinburg is currently in second place with 41.5 points and four in the semifinals, while Towanda is in third with 41 points and four wrestlers in the semifinals. 

Wrestling action gets restarted Saturday morning at 9 am with the first round of consolations, consolation quarterfinals and the championship semifinals at the Williamsport High School gym.
