JOHNSON TAKES A FOURTH PLACE FOR LADY PHOENIX

WINGATE- Sugar Valley Rural Charter School senior Olivia Johnson posted a 4-2 mark Saturday at the Bald Eagle Area Tournament to earn a fourth place finish, as the Lady Phoenix finished in 17th place of the 34-team field. 

Johnson dropped her first match of the day to Bellefontes’ Ella Johnstonbaugh, but then proceeded to win four straight bouts to earn her way into the consolation finals bout for third place. Ironically, Johnson turned around and pinned Johnstonbaugh in the consolation semifinals to earn her spot in the third place bout. 

In the consolation finals for third place, Johnson lost a major decision to Amanda Delevan of Boiling Springs by a 16-3 and had to settle for the fourth place finish. The 4-2 record on the day improved her season record to 16-10 thus far. 

The Lady Phoenix Kahanna Yamashita (106), Evie Andrus (124) and Olivia Clester (170) all dropped their bouts in the consolation quarterfinals to be eliminated. Andrus was also 4-2 in the tournament and is now 16-10 on the season. Olivia Clester posted a 3-2 mark to improve her record to 8-10 on the season. 

Sophomore Yamashita (10-9) at 106 and freshman Aaliyah Hopkins (6-12) at 118 were both 1-2 in the tournament, while Marrin Clester (6-8) was 0-2 at 190 pounds. 

Dallastown won the team title with 189 points, while Boiling Springs finished a distant second with 139.5 points. Shikellamy was third with 120.5, while Williamsport was fourth with 98 and Bald Eagle Area fifth with 94 points. Clearfield finished sixth with 93, while Central Mountain finished in seventh with 74 points. Jersey Shore finished in 15th and the Lady Phoenix finished in 17th place.
