LHU Pottery Sale Dec. 12

Commonwealth University Art Professor Vance McCoy is hosting the 24th Lock Haven University student and alum pottery sale Thursday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the LHU Art Annex, 515 Railroad Street in Lock Haven. Pottery sale proceeds will be shared between the student potters and local non-profit H.E.L.P. 4 Pets. To learn more visit H.E.L.P. 4 Pets at help4pets.help/index.html.

McCoy stated, “This year the student’s skill sets are from beginners to very experienced undergrads. This diversity in skills keeps classroom culture upbeat -students help each other or there are friendly competitions happening such as who can make the tallest vase or biggest bowl. These students work hard. Throwing on the wheel isn’t easy, at times it can be downright frustrating. Every potter reaches a point where they need to push through, keep at since it’s those times that new forms and better techniques are achieved. And mastering that tenacious spirit is useful for almost every aspect of their lives. What I want to also share is this; every piece made is the product of hours of work and one of the greatest moments for them is this sale. Seeing someone pick up, look at, and then purchase a piece one of them made is such a rewarding way to end their semester.”
In the Art Annex building, LHU offers pottery every autumn and the spring semester has a ceramics class. McCoy added, “Every year customers ask, or residents email me requesting I hold a non-credit ceramic or art class for adults. Commonwealth University recently added a new non-credit opportunity for individuals 62 years of age. Residents of Pennsylvania, who are not employed full-time, and with the consent of the instructor, may attend a Commonwealth University class without earning any credit for $35. This is a great opportunity for our older residents and to share the news we’ll have some information at the Thursday’s sale.” To learn more, contact the LHU Student Billing Office, 570-484-2425.
