Central Mountain Girls Tennis Edges Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE-The Central Mountain girls tennis team traveled to Selinsgrove for a hard-fought match that came down to the wire, with the Lady Wildcats emerging victorious in a 3-2 decision.

In singles action, Central Mountain’s Molly Dubbs secured a key victory over Selinsgrove’s Talia Mowery, winning in straight sets 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. Ellie Harry put up a strong fight at #1 singles but ultimately fell to Alexis Hoot of Selinsgrove in a three-set battle, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. At #3 singles, Emily Brinker was edged out by Berkeley Fertig in another close contest, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

The Wildcats found success in doubles, with both teams claiming wins. Audra Eaton and Kassie Williams delivered a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Madison Maneval and Vivian Herrold at #1 doubles. At #2 doubles, Leah Wian and Tess Akeley dominated Nicole Webster and Ashlyn Lehman, winning 6-0, 6-4 to secure the overall team win for Central Mountain.

Head Coach Tom Zettle said, “Very happy with the girls today as we were missing our number 1 and number 3 singles girls. They battled tough and came out with the win. While I was happy with the way they all  played today I want to give a special shout out to our #2 doubles team of Leah Wian and Tess Akeley two freshmen that found out on the bus ride to Selinsgrove that they would be playing together today. They were the deciding match today and came up with a big win.”

The Lady Wildcats will look to build on their momentum as they will be right back in action Thursday hosting Jersey Shore.
