LHU Tennis blanks Penn College to kick off spring season with a win
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT– Today (Sunday, Mar. 24), the Lock Haven tennis team (5-0) traveled to The Central Pa. Tennis Center to take on Penn College (2-3) and came away with a decisive 9-0 victory to remain undefeated.
The Bald Eagles went unbeaten in doubles play.
At No. 1, Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) picked up their third victory with an 8-3 score.
At No. 2 doubles, Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) and Olivia Sharp (York, Pa./York County School of Technology) won 8-4, giving the duo their first victory as a team, while both secured their second doubles victory.
Alaina Marchioni (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Claire Long (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) completed the sweep in doubles, with an 8-1 victory at No. 3, their second victory as a team.
The perfect day did not end there as the Bald Eagles continued to dominate in singles action.
On the No. 1 court, Shuler played her way to a convincing-singles win, winning 6-1 and 6-1. The victory is her fourth on the season.
At No. 2 singles, Anastos won, 6-3 and 6-1, also her fourth victory of the season.
Mary Kathryn Hillman (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) won her second singles match of the season, 6-1 and 6-4, at No. 3.
At No. 4, McLean won her second singles matchup this season with a 6-4 and 6-1 score.
On courts No. 5 and No. 6, the score was 6-0 and 6-1, respectively, with Sharp and Natalie Brown (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) picking up those victories. Both remain undefeated in singles competition and complete the total sweep by the Bald Eagles.
