By Joe Walker
HERSHEY- Central Mountain Lady Wildcat Kendall Wagner will wrestle for seventh place at 170 pounds on Saturday in the PIAA Girls State Wrestling Championships, as the Bucktail sophomore fell in overtime in the consolation quarterfinals late Friday night.
Kendall did not go down with a hard fight, as she was pinned by south central runner-up Aambur Brletich (So, 25-8) of Northern York in 7:25 of the consolation bout. The bout was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, as both wrestlers managed one escape each.
In the overtime, neither wrestler got a takedown in the first overtime period, then after the two rideout periods they were still tied at 3-3. In the ultimate tie breaker, Wagner got to choose the down position, but Brletich rolled Wagner and recorded the fall with five seconds remaining.
Wagner will now wrestle for seventh place and her opponent in the bout will be southeast regional champion Gracie Haflich (Jr, 29-7) of Bethlehem Liberty. Wagner will carry a sophomore season record of 20-6 into the bout.
Wagner will be joined in the 7th place bouts by Bald Eagle Area’s Grace Crestani (23-13), as the Lady Eagle dropped a 2-0 decision to southeast regional third place finisher Bryce Snyder (18-6) of Palisades. Crestani will face south central region third place finisher Aaliyah Armstrong (Fr, 24-5) of Central Dauphin in their 190 pound 7th place bout.
