Lady Bucks lock up home court playoff game with 54-38 win over Millville

FARWELL- It was a playoff preview in Farwell on Wednesday night. Bucktail would host Millville in their season finale and a ton of implications for the upcoming District 4 1A girls basketball playoffs. The Lady Bucks entered the contest holding that fourth and final home slot. Millville was in the fifth spot and had every intention of stealing Bucktail’s home court aspirations.
Millville led by high scoring Larissa Evans would give the Lady Bucks a physical battle. Evans and company would jump out to an early 10-4 lead after one quarter, but then the wheels would come off for the Lady Quakers.
Bucktail’s pressure defense would force multiple turnovers and a huge 20-4 second quarter would give the Lady Bucks a 24-14 lead at halftime. Reserve Lola English would be huge for Suellen Wagner’s squad. English would connect on a pair of buckets and grab 2 steals, 2 rebounds and spark a fire for her squad.
A 14-14 third quarter would see neither team gain much traction, but that is when the game became very physical. These two teams knew then that this would be their playoff destination within a week’s time.
With jv squads taking up the fourth quarter, Bucktail would us a 16-10 score to set the 54-38 final.
Evans led the Lady Quakers with 27 points.
Mak Wagner led Bucktail with 20 points and Kendall Wagner would collect her second double-double in as many games with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Matti Mason played another solid game for Bucktail by scoring 9 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.
Bucktail’s 13 wins is the most since their 17-win season in 2015. They have now won 9 of their last 12 games heading into the upcoming playoffs.
