LHU Women’s Basketball soars to record-setting victory at ESU, Robinson ties blocks record
EAST STROUDSBURG– Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) tied the all-time blocks record and the Lock Haven women’s basketball team soared to its record-setting 14th consecutive victory by downing East Stroudsburg, 56-46, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road contest on Wednesday (Jan. 17).
The Bald Eagles improve to 14-1 overall and remain perfect in the PSAC with a mark of 9-0. The 14 consecutive victories this season is the longest winning streak in program history, surpassing the 1884-85 team.
The No. 4 team in the D2CSC Atlantic Region rankings, Lock Haven also improves to 7-0 on the road.
The Bald Eagles, whose only loss came in the first game of the season, remains four games ahead of the second-place team in the PSAC East.
With the loss, ESU falls to 4-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Reigning PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week, Robinson, matched her career-high with seven blocks to tie Shameka Lee’s (2003-07) program record for career blocks (96), doing so in just two seasons.
Robinson, who set the single-season block record as a freshman with 53, is on pace to shatter her own record and is already second to only herself with 13 games to go.
The sophomore nearly secured a triple-double the hard way as she finished with eight points and 11 rebounds to go with three steals.
Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) was aggressive all night and finished 10-of-15 at the foul line on her way to a game-high 17 points. The sophomore added four rebounds and two steals.
Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) also found herself at the charity stripe often and cashed in on 7-of-8 attempts to finish with 11 points and two steals.
Rhlyn Rouse (York, Pa./York Tech) led the second unit with eight points and eight rebounds, while Madeline Evans (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) also pulled in eight rebounds.
Olivia Smith (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) also added quality minutes and finished with five rebounds.
The Bald Eagles jumped out to an early 28-17 lead at the break, thanks to strong defense which held the Warriors to single digits in both quarters.
Lock Haven held ESU to under 25 percent from the field in the first half, while limiting the Warriors to just one 3-pointer and two free throw attempts.
The Warriors made a slight run in the second half by matching the Bald Eagles with 11 points in the third quarter and outscoring Lock Haven, 18-17, in the fourth, but the lead proved to be too much.
