Women’s Basketball ties program-record with 13th straight victory, downs Kutztown on the road

KUTZTOWN– The Lock Haven women’s basketball team continues its historic season as it traveled to Kutztown University for a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Contest and won its 13th straight game of the season, 64-49, on Wednesday night (Jan. 10).

With the victory, the Bald Eagles match the 1984-85 squad for the longest winning streak in program history. Lock Haven has not lost since the season opener against the No. 9 team in the country, Fairmont State.

Lock Haven is now 13-1 overall and 8-0 in the PSAC, sitting four games ahead of the second-place team. The Haven also improves to 6-0 on the road.

The Haven snapped the Golden Bears four-game winning streak, dropping Kutztown to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC.

The reigning PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) continues to fill up the stat sheet as she led all scorers 25 points, adding seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks.

Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) had another standout game as she secured a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, adding two blocks and two steals.

Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) finished with 13 points, while Madeline Evans (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) added five points and six rebounds.

Leading 27-19 entering the second half, the Bald Eagles created even more separation in the third quarter by outscoring Kutztown, 18-13, thanks to shooting an efficient 7-of-15 from the floor, while holding KU under 30 percent.

Robinson continued her dominant night, as she netted nine points in the third quarter, while knocking down 4-of-5 shots from the field.

Kutztown scored a game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, but The Haven poured in 19 thanks to shooting 11-of-12 at the charity stripe to put the game away.

In the first half, the Bald Eagles held the Golden Bears to 27 percent (6-of-22) shooting in the first half and won the turnover battle 14-9 to build a 27-19 advantage heading into the break. Lock Haven doubled Kutztown in steals (6-3), while Robinson led the way with eight points and three rebounds.

The Bald Eagles have the weekend off and will return to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to East Stroudsburg University.
