Wagner’s career night lifts Bucktail to overtime win, 55-50
By Bees O’Brien
AUSTIN- Mak Wagner has had a strong senior season thus far. Bucktail’s leading scorer would put forth the best game of her career in a 33-point effort and most importantly a 55-50 Lady Bucks victory at Austin.
Bucktail was rolling in the first half with a 10-8 lead after one. Their lead would grow to 27-18 at the half, but costly turnovers would lead to a huge rally from the Lady Panthers.
A 14-6 Austin third quarter would bring them to within one point at 33-32 heading into the final quarter of regulation. Austin would make up the one-point difference in the fourth quarter with an 11-10 advantage to send the game into overtime.
In overtime Mak Wagner would take control and outscore Austin 12-7 by her lonesome. The turning point in overtime came when Eva Sockman would find Mak Wagner open after grabbing an offensive rebound. Wagner converted to give Bucktail the 49-45 lead and it was all Lady Bucks from there.
Wagner’s 33 points was a new career high. She also would dish out 4 assists and swipe 6 steals and had 3 blocked shots.
Her sister, Kendall Wagner also had a strong by scoring 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double. Sockman had a strong 10-rebound effort in the win.
Bucktail will look to keep their momentum going on Wednesday when they host 1-win Sullivan County.
