LHU Men’s Basketball falls at #13 California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team fell on the road to No. 13 California (Pa.), 93-71, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover game on Tuesday (Dec. 19).

With the defeat, Lock Haven drops to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC. The No. 13 Vulcans (10-0, 4-0 PSAC) remain perfect on the year.

Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) led the Bald Eagles on offense and finished with a team-high 21 points to go with three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.

Collin Jones (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Dyllon Scott (Dacula, Ga./Penfield) each scored in double figures with the second unit, pouring in 12 and 10 points respectively. Scott added a team-high seven rebounds.

Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./Macduffie School) added seven points and five rebounds. Mike Knouse (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) knocked down both the Bald Eagles’ 3-pointers, totaling six points.

After trailing 47-40 coming out of the break, the Bald Eagles could not cut into the deficit in the second half as the Vulcans continued their hot shooting night and Lock Haven couldn’t get things going from behind the arch.

Cal knocked down 9-of-21 shots from 3-point land, while Lock Haven finished just 2-of-19. The Haven shot over 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but couldn’t match that production in the second half and dropped down to 32 percent. Cal finished the night 24-of-60 (56 percent) from the field.

In a relatively clean game, the Vulcans edged Lock Haven in the turnover battle, 12-9.

In the first half, the Vulcans never trailed and led 46-40 after a high-scoring opening 20 minutes.

Both schools came out on fire on the offensive end and shot over 50 percent from the floor in the first half. However, Cal knocked down five three-pointers, while Lock Haven went just 1-of-7 to make up the scoring difference.
