Gas-Fired Power Plant Proposed for Renovo
‘Renovo Energy Center’ Under Consideration for Old Rail Yard Site
RENOVO – The Clinton County Economic Partnership has announced that it is working with a business known as Renovo Energy Center LLC to locate a state of the art gas fired power plant at the Renovo Industrial Park. The company would convert natural gas into electricity for use on the power grid.
Local officials have been working on the project since last summer and the company has an option on land presently owned by Renovo Rail and Robert Maguire. According to the partnership a lengthy due diligence process will continue for the next several months.
“We will continue to work with Renovo Energy Center, local and state officials to try and make this project a reality,” said Partnership President Mike Flanagan. “Everyone involved so far has been very helpful, and we still have a long way to go to make this project a reality, but right now everyone is rowing in the same direction.”
Asked about a time frame, Flanagan told “therecord-online,” “We still have up to 18 months of planning, permitting items to get through, so it’s a solid two years away. Let’s hope it’s a 2017 project.”
The Partnership confirmation follows months of background work on the project, a time frame which has seen numerous visits to the site on the north side of Renovo. The old yards have been the location for a number of different employers over the years since the Pennsylvania Railroad pulled out some half a century ago. None of the previous employers were able to provide sustained employment for western Clinton County residents.
The Partnership has its annual bus tour of Clinton County business/industry sites set for Tuesday of this week. An afternoon stop at the site in Renovo is expected to be the focal point of the tour.
