LOCK HAVEN — With the school student body looking on, the Lock Haven Catholic School today held the groundbreaking for a 10,000-square foot addition to its W. Water St. building.

Bishop Mark Bartchak, head of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese, blessed the site, telling the assemblage that the expansion project “beginning today will serve to enliven our faith.”

The school has been seeking to raise $1.5 million to add two classrooms, restroom facilities, a kitchen area and a multi-purpose room. Fundraising campaign chairman Charlie Mogish joined school and church officials in the groundbreaking.

After the blessing and groundbreaking many from the student body joined various members of the school community, along with Mogish and Bishop Bartchak in a celebratory dance.

Jim Russo from general contractor M & R Contracting said work on placement of the pre-engineered building will begin next month with the expectation it will be completed by spring of next year.

Lock Haven Catholic this year added a seventh grade class for the first time and has announced plans to add an eighth grade for the next school year, making the school a combined elementary and middle school facility.
