Pa.’s unemployment rate was 4% in May, lowest since 1976

HARRISBURG, PA – Pennsylvania’s unemployment was 4% in May, matching the lowest rate recorded in January 1976, according to state data released on Friday.

The May unemployment rate is down one-tenth of a percentage point from the April rate of 4.1%, according to the Department of Labor and Industry.

The commonwealth’s May 2023 unemployment rate is three-tenths of a percent lower than its May 2022 rate of 4.3%, state data shows.

Nationally, the unemployment rate was 3.7% in May, up from 3.4% in April.

In Pennsylvania, non-farm jobs were up 7,900 over the month to a record high of 6,122,500 in May.
