Lock Haven woman wins $1 million lottery prize

MILL HALL, PA – A stop at the Mill Hall Sheetz just before Christmas proved to be the right move for a Lock Haven woman; it turned out to be a million dollar move. April Williams on Wednesday was formally introduced as the winner of a $1 million Pennsylvania Match 6 jackpot. The state lottery presented a commemorative $1 million check to Williams in front of the Sheetz store she had visited in December.

She told a media assemblage on Wednesday she went into the Sheetz: “I saw the PA Lottery machine right beside the ATM and the numbers updated for the Match 6 jackpot, so I thought, ‘Oh I’ll just get $10 and a quick pick.’” This was before going to the nearby WalMart for Christmas shopping.

She said she did not check the numbers right away, but did so later, scanning her ticket and not believing what she saw. “The scanner said to file a Pennsylvania Lottery claim, $1 million! I said, ‘That can’t be right!’ I asked the clerk to check the ticket and her eyes became as big as saucers. I said, ‘Did that say what I think it said?’ She said, ‘Yes, I’m pretty sure it did.’ I stood there in shock. I thought, ‘Oh my goodness.’”

A mother of three, with boys 14 and 16 still at home, she said they’ll take a vacation and put money towards a home she bought three years ago. She plans to continue to work in Lock Haven. She noted the younger son’s only request was for a new Xbox game.

Williams said she plays the lottery “off and on” and her previous largest prize won was $20.
