Bethel Park takes PIAA baseball crown, 4-2 over Red Land

STATE COLLEGE, PA – Bethel Park from suburban Pittsburgh took the PIAA Class 5A baseball championship Thursday, holding on for a 4-2 win over defending champion Red Land.

It was the second thriller in four days for the Black Hawks. Bethel Park had edged Central Mountain, 1-0 in nine innings on Monday of this week in the state semifinals.

The Black Hawks opened a 4-0 lead and then held off the Harrisburg area school to claim the state crown. Cody Geddes, who had picked up the win on Monday over Central Mountain, came on in the seventh and final inning Thursday and after two Patriots had reached base with no one, he retired the next three batters to secure the crown for the District 7 team.
