Bucktail High School set for multi-million dollar summer upgrade

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP. PA – Keystone Central School District Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin says there will be “a lot going on” this summer at the Bucktail Middle/High School. The school is due for a $6.3 million upgrade and the district superintendent touched on a portion of those improvements at last night’s board work session.

Some of those improvements discussed at the board’s virtual session include windows, blinds, exterior doors and canopy entrances. Other parts of the upgrades will cover air conditioning, LED lighting upgrades, building envelope upgrades and mechanical insulation.

Those are just a portion of improvements. Others are to include upgrades to the cafeteria, girls locker rooms, tennis courts, FCS classroom, library, science classroom, office and office space and emergency generators; also hot water heaters. Also ticketed are floor replacement and finishing, asbestos removal, ceiling replacement and emergency lighting, roof replacement and Bucktail/Renovo Elementary main gear replacement.

While she said she supported the Bucktail upgrade, board member Elisabeth Lynch said she could not vote for an architectural contract agreement at next week’s voting session because the board facilities committee was unable to meet and pass judgment on the revisions to the building’s entrances. Superintendent Martin and facilities committee chairman/board member Jeff Johnston indicated the artist’s renderings for the work were not available in time for such a committee review. Martin said the problem was due to miscommunication. She said this next phase of the Bucktail improvements is coming in under budget.

The superintendent also noted, barring any future snow days, June 8 is the last day of school. She said the district is working on commencement dates for Central Mounain and Bucktail High Schools and will announce that information as soon as possible.
