Lady ‘Cats Solid in 8-1 Win over Williamsport

cm-softballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain had one last opportunity to set the tone for the post season with a home contest against a solid Williamsport squad.

The Lady Millionaires came to town with a very respectable 14-3 record backed up with quality pitching. While the Lady ‘Cats had respect for Williamsport, they also knew they were capable of making a statement of their own.

Central Mountain came out in the first inning swinging and set the tone at the very beginning. Joey Dershem showed some freshman savvy and patiently earned a walk, then proceeded to steal second then was driven home on a single from Jessica Strouse. From there the Lady ‘Cats were patient in the batter’s box picking up several clutch hits with two strikes on the board. Jimmie Coder came up big with a two-out, two-strike single to put CM up 4-0 in the first inning.

The Lady Wildcats added on to their tally in the second inning when Mariah Major crushed a 2-run no-doubt bomb to center, making the score 6-0. In all, CM collected 10 hits in the game.

Williamsport got their first run in top of the fourth, but Central Mountain answered right back in the bottom half of the inning grabbing two more runs to make 8-1.

Williamsport managed two more runs in the top of the seventh inning after CM made a couple miscues and could have ended the game.

Josie Dershem earned the win on the mound with another solid performance giving up 6 hits, three walks and striking out 3 in the seven inning, complete game effort.

The Lady Wildcats will next host DuBois on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 for a 4 p.m. semi-final District 6-9 playoff game. The winner of that contest will advance to the championship game to be played at Beard Field on the campus of Penn State University on May 27 at a time to be determined.
