Challenging Week for Lady Bucks
FARWELL – In the third inning, the Lady Bucks posted six runs and extented the lead to 11-2 as Maria Morgan delivered a “Grandslam” during that inning right over centerfield fence. Lady Bucks went onto win over Sullivan County 19-12. Coaches Jim Morgan, Mike Poorman and Bruce Ransom were very pleased on the way each of the Lady Bucks played. We were able to change players around to start seeing what we can do for next season. Even on the mound we were able to see Anna Cowfer and Maria D’Onofrio in some game situation and how they can work out of it.
Morgan and Ransom combine to step on home plate nine of the 19 total runs. Morgan had a big night as she went 3 for 5 and having 7 RBI as she had the grandslam and two doubles. Ransom on the other hand did her scoring the opposite way as she was 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. But she created 4 walks on her big night. Even Tiffany Werts walked all three times of her batting positions and scored all three times.
The Lady Bucks were patient tonight as they were walked 23 times during all seven innings. Even the Lady Bucks pitchers between them all had 18 walks also. The Lady Bucks scored in every inning as well. The only team not to score in an inning was SC in the bottom of the second inning.
It was nice to see the four seniors lead the team with example as Werts, S. Cowfer, Morgan and Ransom crossed the plate 14 of the 19 runs as coach Poorman pointed out.
This past week has been a heart breaking week for the Lady Bucks Softball team. We had two of our opponents right on their heels and could not finish it as our defense let us down. On Monday the Lady Bucks hosted Millville and won 15-1.
There was not much to get excited about as Millville could field only nine players and play with eight. Millville is trying to survive the rest of the season as they have been dealing with injuries. You have to give their girls a lot of credit to keep playing and to keep a level head on their shoulder. They are also asking one girl to do all the pitching per game.
For the Lady Bucks, who only had three hits as Millville’s pitcher struggled with the plate as she walked 13 Lady Bucks batters. The game was well in hand by the end of the second inning as the Lady Bucks led 13-0. The only hits was by Maria Morgan, Abby Ransom and Paige Sockman.
This past Friday, the Lady Bucks had a long drive home as they are still shaking their heads and wondering what just happen in the bottom of the seventh inning at CMVT. Lady Bucks were winning 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Just when the Coaches felt real great about the Lady Bucks defense, They just fell apart as CMVT came from behind to win 5-4. CMVT created three infield errors and smacked a double to left field for the four runs.
It was a pitchers duo between Sockman and Witchey of CMVT. Sockman had a career high of six strikeouts as Witchey threw eleven strikeouts herself. It was not until the top of the sixth inning when the runs started coming across the plate. Tiffany Werts led off with a double as Shae Cowfer’s sacrifice bunt advanced her to third base. Morgan came up as the CMVT Coach decided to intentionally walk her with one out. Both Werts and Morgan scored on a wild pitch. CMVT scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Lady Bucks led 2-1.
Top of the seventh inning Maria D’Onofrio walked as Renee Werts and T. Werts each single as the bases were loaded with two outs and Morgan up to bat. On a 3-1 count, Morgan ripped a single up the middle as two runs scored and leading 4-1. Just three outs are needed and our defense was playing great. CMVT’s first two batters received bases by infield errors as the third batter singled for bases loaded. The next batter received an infield error as two runs scored, still with no outs. Then the big blow came as the pitcher for CMVT Witchey hit a double into leftfield for the final two runs.
Last Thursday, it was in the sixth inning the Lady Bucks error bug allowed Montgomery to win 8-7. But the Lady Bucks did not give up without swinging hard. In the first inning, the Lady Bucks Ransom hit two RBI across after a single. Montgomery scored in the first and third inning to grap the lead 4-2.
In the fourth inning, Morgan hit a hard double for a RBI and cut into the score 4-3 Montgomery. It was the fifth inning that pitcher Sockman helped herself out on a single for two RBI. S. Cowfer had a single for a RBI and the Lady Bucks led 6-4. The bottom of the sixth was the down fall for the Lady Bucks as Montgomery scored on four errors and the lead 8-6.
The seventh inning seen some fireworks as Sockman hit just two feet below the eight foot fence for a double. Montgomery walked and had a error on the next two Lady Bucks batters as the top of the order was coming to the plate with one out. S. Cowfer’s line drive a ball back to the pitcher as she caught the ball and threw to third for the double play to end the game.
Its the final week of softball and the Senior Lady Bucks will be recognized on Thursday as we host St. John Neumann starting at 4:30 PM. Then on Monday and Tuesday the Lady Bucks will be home against South Williamsport and Bloomsburg as they both start at 4:30 PM. Next Thursday is the final game as the Lady Bucks will travel to Galeton for a 4:30 PM first pitch.
