Shirley Jayne Dunkle, 88, of Lock Haven, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Eagle Ridge Personal Care Home.

Born on December 11, 1926 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Clifford “Jake” and Sara McGill Ricker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Philip Johnson, Sr., and her second husband, Mahlon Dunkle.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Dale Philip Johnson, Jr. and a daughter, Vicki Lee (Clyde) Wise.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Sarah Katie Hefferon of Lock Haven; a son-in-law, Clyde Wise of Beech Creek; her grandsons, Peter (Carmen) Severino of California and Philip (Christie) Severino of North Carolina; a step-grandson, Matthew J. (Chrissy) Wise of Lock Haven; and a great-grandson, Brett Severino of North Carolina.

She was a member of the Lock Haven High School Class of 1944. After graduation, Shirley worked as a secretary to Orrie Claster and Molly Fromm of M.L. Claster and Son. She went on to work for attorney Henry Hipple as well as Clinton County Court of Common Pleas Judges; the Honorable Richard Saxton and the Honorable Carson Brown. Shirley retired in 1996 as secretary to Judge Brown.

Shirley served as choir director and organist at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ for 50 years and later as organist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she earned a certificate of Theological Education for Ministry from the University of the South School of Theology in 2006.

She and her husband, Mahlon, enjoyed traveling the world.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 1p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 112 E. Main St., Lock Haven, Pa 17745 with Ven. Canon Daniel L. Selvage officiating. Burial will follow at Hublersburg Cemetery.

A visitation will be held at the church from noon until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
