LOCK HAVEN–For the 2013-2014 campaign, the Clinton County United Way has reached 35% of its $268 thousand goal.

Executive director Angela Harding said the organization still has a number of large contributors outstanding; these include major local employers First Quality of Lock Haven; First Quality of McElhattan; Keystone Central School District; Baker Hughes; and Armstrong World Industries.

Harding said the United Way will be hosting its 3rd annual night at Stella A’s on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6-9 p.m. At the event there will be a performance by Phil Reeder, a local musician, who will begin playing at 7 p.m. Stella A’s is located at 219 East Main Street in Lock Haven. The event is open to the public, but reservations are recommended by calling (570) – 748- 5600. A portion of the sales will be donated to the current campaign United Way is sponsoring.

United Way is a worldwide organization, working with 18 partner agencies that have the option of a payroll deduction. These programs are specific to adults and children who live in Clinton County.

Harding said an example of what United Way accomplishes can be found in the Ross Library. They fund “Library on Wheels,” which delivers books to childcare centers, the prison, and senior centers. United Way funds this program so the money Ross Library makes can be used for their operations.

United Way is here to support. “Hardworking people fall on hard times,” Harding explained. United Way is here to help these individuals get back on their feet and stay on track.

United Way raises as much money as possible, and then the local agencies apply to United Way to help fund those specific programs. A few of the programs United Way works with are: American Red Cross, In Your Shoes, Lock Haven Area YMCA, Women’s Center and Valley Prevention Services. When spring rolls around, United Way and the agencies figure out how they can assist the programs to their specific needs. The money is then distributed among all of the partner agencies.

Something new that started during the 2012-2013 campaign was the opportunity to fund an Emergency Needs Program. This program is for those who experience natural disasters, like the Beech Creek flooding. It assisted in cleaning up debris and helped those individuals who were affected by the disaster get back on their feet. United Way raised $3,200.00 and helped 11 families.

To find out opportunities and ways you can help and be a part of United Way, Harding welcomes the public to Stella A’s, listen to music, have some fun and food, and make a difference in your community.
