Powerade 2022: CM’s Simcox finishes fourth

CANONSBURG, PA – All in all, Central Mountain sophomore Luke Simcox had quite the performance at the grueling Powerade Wrestling Tournament completed on Thursday.

Simcox came in to the tourney unseeded and knocked off both the fifth and sixth seeds en route to an ultimate fourth place finish. After losing to eventual champion Nic Bouzakis from Wyoming Seminary by a 19-1 technical fall in the semifinals, Simcox finished up in the consolations with a default win over Williamsport senior Braden Bower, followed by a 10-6 loss in the third place match to #3 seed Cameron Catrabone from Williamsville North, NY.

Simcox was the lone Wildcat place-winner in the talent-laden 65-team tourney. He finished with a 4-2 mark over the two days. Central Mountain finished with 72 team points as 10 of its entries contributed at least one win. The point total was good enough for 18^th place, a point behind 17^th place Williamsport with 73 points and 16^th place State College with 74 points. State College produced the mid-state area’s only champion, Pierson Manville at 138 pounds.

Wyoming Seminary ran away with the team title, crowning five champs while no other school had more than one.

Central Mountain, coming off some recent injury and health issues, will get a break until Saturday, Jan.8 when the team travels to Williamsport for the PHAC dual meet tourney. A much anticipated Central Mountain – Williamsport dual meet is likely to conclude that day.
