Anastos Finishes Fourth at D-6 Tourney

cm-golfCRESSON – In her first try at the District 6 golf tournament sophomore Alexis Anastos brought home a fourth place finish for the Central Mountain Wildcat golf team.

Anastos was back out on Cresson Mountain again Thursday fighting the cold and wind at Summit Country Club for the second day of the PIAA District 6 Championship tournament.

The greens were cut low, rolled, wind-swept and even faster than day one. Coach Dave Williams again had to monitor a group, so he only got to see Alexis one time during the 18-hole day. After the round, Alexis said that putting was her downfall for the day. She was hitting the ball well, but only had one par and one birdie. However, her two day total of 194 (94 and 100) did earn her the spot of a 4th place, and a medal for the AAA championship scores.

The only girl advancing as the AAA champion was Ashley Stewart for State College with a 2-day combined score of 172. The State College team of 4-best scores earned them the spot to travel to Treasure Lake on Friday to try and advance to the State Level.

Williams said he is very proud of Alexis in her first year of competitive golf. “She is very skilled, driven, practices with a desire to improve and takes defeat with great respect for the other players. She has great potential and is looking forward to next year with her, knowing she will practice, play and improve to meet the challenge of the next Districts VI Championship.”

Coach Williams also thanked the team for all its effort and honorable work this year to earn the 32-9 record against the Heartland and Mountain League teams. He also thanked the parents and grandparents that supported the players and Dr. Mark Rowedder for helping as an assistant. Williams gave special thanks to the members, manager and pro and Clinton Country Club for their help and support to make this season one of the best that Coach Williams has had since he began in 2001. He said he is looking forward to a great year in 2015 with the returning talent and some new ones he has noticed in eighth grade.
