Margaret A. “Peggy” Jones, 88, of 859 W. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Susque View Home.

Peggy was born on December 20, 1925 in Lock Haven, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Ruth Heckman Swope.

She was a 1943 graduate of Lock Haven High School and a 1947 graduate of the then Lock Haven State Teachers College, majoring in Elementary Education.

On June 18, 1949 at the United Lutheran Church of Lock Haven, she married Jack S. Jones, who preceded her in death on February 18, 1993.

Peggy taught first grade children in Allentown, Pa from 1948 to 1949. She began her teaching career in Keystone Central School District in 1949, starting as a Kindergarten Teacher at Robb Elementary School from 1949 to 1952. She then worked at Mill Hall Elementary School for 12 years before moving to Dickey Elementary School where she worked for 19 years before retiring in 1983.

In 1974, she was selected for the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America Award for Keystone Central School District.

Peggy was a lifetime member of the United Lutheran Church of Lock Haven and was active in the church choir for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Lock Haven University Alumni Association and a lifetime member in the local and state Pennsylvania State Association of School Retirees.

She is survived by one son, Jerry S. Jones of Mechanicsburg, Pa; her sister-in-law, Rita Swope; two grandchildren and numerous nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Swope.

A memorial service for Peggy will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to United Lutheran Church of Lock Haven.
