NORTH BEND – The Ditty family candles are burning pleasant and varied scents in many area homes and benefitting veteran’s organizations in Clinton County.

Eric Ditty, a disabled veteran, started the Ditty Candle Company business for his sons James and Ryan, to give them something to do. Making candles caught on with the boys and soon other family members, including their grandparents and aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins joined the endeavor.

Their candles are proving more popular than they expected. But that’s good; it means they can give more to veterans. One third of the profit from candle sales goes to VFW benefit center in Lock Haven for the veteran’s fund. Most of the candles are sold in Lock Haven, but they are also available for sale at Tony’s Hardware in Renovo.

The candles are made of 100 percent USA soy wax melted and molded in the Ditty kitchen. The only other ingredients the Ditty’s use in the candles is scent. They use more than 22 varied scents, including fresh fruit scents and one called “dirt” that smells like fresh soil. James said some customers have told him he needs a warning label that the candles could cause weight gain because the food scented candles increase appetite and hunger feelings.
