Men’s Soccer tops Goldey-Beacom, 3-2

Bald Eagles get goals from three different players on the way to first win of 2014

lhu-soccerWILMINGTON, Del. – The Bald Eagles got goals three goals from three different players and the Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (1-1) topped Goldey-Beacom (1-2) 3-2 on the road today in non-conference action.

Carson O’Neill (Newton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional), Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Jacob Oldaker (Elliottsburg, Pa./West Perry) all scored their first goals of the season for Lock Haven.

The hosts went up 1-0 just 4:42 into the match after Manuel Berto sent a 30-yard shot into the upper corner. Berto’s goal was the only one in the first half.

Lock Haven drew even in the 51st minute when O’Neill put a quick shot behind GBC goalie Marcus Arridsson, thanks to a long pass in from Ben Weaver (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot).

Amspacher made it 2-1 in the 70th minute of play after he headed home a corner from Tyler Weikert (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg).

Oldaker scored the Bald Eagles third straight and made it 3-1 in the 76th minute when he knocked home a rebound. Evan Davis (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), a rookie was credited with his first career point.

GBC netted an 88th minute goal, but the rally was short lived and the Bald Eagles left Wilmington, Delaware with the victory.

Freshman Gage Rims (Rosedale, Md./Loch Raven) made his second straight start on defense and led a strong effort for The Haven.

Jonathan Howitt (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post East) and Troy Teresak (Pompton Plains, N.J./DePaul Catholic) split time in goal, combining for six saves.

Todays’ win marked the first of the year for the Bald Eagles, who are now 1-1 on the young season. Despite a strong performance on the road Saturday (Sept. 6), LHU was edged 1-0 by Le Moyne.

Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday, September 13 at Cedarville (7 p.m.). It’s the third of three straight road games to the open the season for the Bald Eagles. LHU is set for its home and PSAC-opener on Friday, September 19 at 3:40 p.m. vs. Pitt-Johnstown.
