For the Record – July 31, 2014

by Barbara Mastriania

Who is that mystery woman …

One of the first things many newcomers learn about Renovo is the friendly nature of most of its citizens. It’s readily apparent why it’s called the little town with a big heart. Ahren Green, co-owner of Plan B tells us that shortly after he began working on the Plan B store building, a friendly woman came in and introduced herself as Renovo’s one woman welcoming committee. He said she presented him with welcoming gifts and gift certificates. The gifts include a lovely blue and white blanket. She told him she didn’t know his favorite team so she knitted him a Penn State blanket. He is thoroughly appreciative of her kindness, he said. He’s forgotten her name and wonders who the mystery Welcome Lady is. Any information about the mystery woman is welcome at The Record and by Ahren Green.

Renovo’s beauty …

In addition to its friendly people, Renovo is known also for its scenic beauty. Many times people have said they think this area is every bit as beautiful as Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon. Two weeks ago some Californians Mike Ginther and company were visiting here, I met them when they were touring St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They told me they believe this area if the “most beautiful part of the world,” Mike said. “This place has a gravitational pull; Renovo will always be home to me.”
The Ginthers have local roots. He grew up at 145 Eighth St. before the family moved to California when he was eight years old. His dad grew up at Ninth and Ontario. I’ve written many times about my first visit here. We were coming west on the Renovo Road early one spring morning and the sun was shining on the mountain wall and it was just beautiful.

Rumor has it …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but we’re hearing that Eric Ditty has the hottest candles on the planet. Well, that may be a bit exaggerated but, apparently they’re considered the hottest, best candles to come this way for awhile. The word is that the soy candles burn clean and the scents are downright mouth watering good. Even better, Eric is giving a good portion of the sales price goes to funds for veterans. Way to go Eric!

A Job Fair first …

The Clinton County Career Link will be sponsoring a job fair in Renovo at the Western Clinton County Recreation Authority (recreation center) on Thursday, Sept. 18. This will be the first job fair in Renovo and it gives employers an opportunity to get information out to the public about the jobs they offer. And it gives job seekers an opportunity to meet with employers. The job fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bruce Jones of Career Link said the job fair is a good thing for Renovo. There is no cost to either the employers or the job seekers who attend. Jones said there is a need for more employers to participate.

It’s almost ready …

Rumor has it, and there are clues that it’s true, that the new District Justice building at Ninth and Erie in Renovo is almost done. The rumor is that there is a need for a person to clean the new office, probably one day a week. For more information contact the county commissioners in Lock Haven.

A tribute to Lee …

The Renovo Community Trade Association took a moment of silence to pay respect to member Lee Walker who passed away two weeks ago. County Commissioner Jeff Snyder placed a red rose in a
Vase at Lee’s place at the table at the Sportsman’s where the CTA meets. Lee will be greatly missed and he was a dedicated member of the organizations he belonged to. Shown in the photo (below) with the rose are CTA members Gary Gregory, Damon Wagner and Mickey Kelley.

Cover guy …

Tim Horner, supervisor of Chapman Township who was recently elected president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors organization, was also featured on the cover of the Pennsylvania Township News magazine ( shown below). The magazine is distributed to all local officials in Pennsylvania.
